THE CHALLENGE

Betsy Ochoa, our vegan chef, as the 82717 Life Magazine referred to her treated our team to some of her delicious vegan treats. The food edition provided some amazing opportunity when it came to photography. This particular photoshoot was full of color and flawless dishes so the trick was to make sure that was translated into the pages of the magazine just as beautifully.

THE APPROACH

Establishing the color of the food as the focal point was the first step. The idea of the food being able to stand on it’s own led to the decision to make sure that the utensils and backgrounds were muted with a color that would do nothing but compliment the palette of the food. I decided on a modern look for the plating and counter pieces and then tied the food into the aesthetic once it was plated. Together, fresh ingredients that Betsy provided and the modern accent pieces made for a beautiful marriage between the two.
